Evanks Rosales, 15, left, leads a group of California Cadet Corps participants from North Valley Military Institute in Sun Valley, California, during the California Cadet Corps State Drill Competition on April 9 at the California National Guard’s Joint Forces Training Base (JFTB) Los Alamitos. The Orange County base hosted more than 300 youths in grades 5-12 that day for the Individual Major Awards and the State Drill Competition, which are annual highlights for the Cadet Corps, a Cal Guard-run leadership-development program that dates to 1911.
