Two military cadets in dress uniform stand with two mules on a stone courtyard in front of a Gothic-style granite building. The mules are adorned with ceremonial tack, including black and gold saddle blankets, with one bearing a large letter 'A' clipped into its coat. This appears to be a formal or ceremonial occasion at what is likely the United States Military Academy at West Point.
