U.S. Marines with Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 3d Marine Regiment, also known as “The Lava Dogs,” train Australian soldiers with 6th Royal Australian Regiment in the use of M40 sniper rifles during exercise Ssang Yong 16 in South Korea, March 16, 2016. SsangYong is a biennial combined amphibious exercise conducted by forward deployed U.S. forces with the Republic of Korea Navy and Marine Corps, Australian Army and Royal New Zealand Army Forces in order to strengthen our interoperability and working relationships across a wide range of military operations - from disaster relief to complex expeditionary operations. The American and Australian alliance has grown ever stronger based upon the shared interests and common values of both nations. (U.S. Marine Corps photos by MCIPAC Combat Camera Lance Cpl. Sean M.
