U.S. Navy Adm. Cecil D. Haney, USSTRATCOM commander, announced the 2nd Bomb Wing at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., had won the 2015 Omaha Trophy, naming them the best strategic bomber wing within U.S. Strategic Command on Feb. 3, 2016. The Omaha Trophy was originally created by the Strategic Command Consultation Committee in 1971. At the time, a single trophy was presented annually as a token of appreciation to the command’s best wing. Since then, the tradition has evolved to unit-level awards that recognize USSTRATCOM’s premier intercontinental ballistic missile wing, ballistic missile submarine, strategic bomber wing, global operations unit and strategic aircraft wing.
