Two Coast Guard divers are lowered from the Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star into the water at the National Science Foundation’s McMurdo Station, Antarctica, Jan. 19, 2016. The divers utilized time at McMurdo Station to familiarize themselves with the ice pier in Winter Quarters Bay, a temporary platform made from ice structured with iron rebar and cables.
