Rows of tents stand ready for use inside a forward operations base Feb. 3 on Ie Shima, Okinawa, Japan. Marines with 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force performed a field training exercise Jan. 25 to Feb. 4. The purpose of the exercise was to test the unit’s ability to deploy and usecommand and control ability over a wide area. While on Ie Shima, the 9th ESB Marines were subject to erratic rain, grimy mud, bone chilling winds and cold.
