Pfc. Chris Paterson, a native of Hudson, Ohio, holds his six-year-old daughter Aliva before deploying to Afghanistan from Fort Drum, N.Y., Jan. 9. Paterson is an infantryman assigned to Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment of the 10th Mountain Division's 1st Brigade Combat Team. His battalion is the first of six from the 1st BCT that are deploying with the troop surge in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
