The image shows a large pile of spent brass cartridge casings scattered across a flat surface, mixed with dark-colored metal discard rings or clips. The casings appear to be rifle-caliber rounds, likely from a military or range shooting context. The presence of disintegrating belt links alongside the casings suggests use with belt-fed automatic weapons.

Spent brass and disintegrated links are all that were left of the M-2 .50-caliber portion of the a machine gun shoot with Headquarters Company, Regimental Combat Team 5. The company trained nearly two dozen Marines on shooting the mounted weapons to keep their skills sharp during convoy operations.
