160119-N-OI810-083 YOKOSUKA, Japan (Jan. 19, 2016) Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Equipment) Airman Apprentice Alex Elam, left, from Cardington, Ohio, and Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Equipment) Airman Jon Garcia, from Columbus, Ohio, use pry bars to remove arresting gear impact pads to prepare the flight deck for resurfacing aboard the U.S. Navy's only forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). Arresting gear impact pads protect the flight deck from the motion of arresting cables during aircraft recovery. Ronald Reagan provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
