Lt. Gen. William G. Webster, Third Army/U.S. Army Central commanding general, and Command Sgt. Maj. John D. Fourhman, Third Army command sergeant major, break ground where the headquarters' new command and control complex will be located at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, S.C., Aug. 17. "We are excited to begin a new chapter in our distinguished history with you here in South Carolina today," Webster said as he addressed attendees. "Today's groundbreaking ceremony initiates the end of Third Army's 52-year tenure at Fort McPherson, as we transfer the headquarters to Shaw Air Force Base in 2011 as part of the Base Realignment and Closure program."
