Rct. Emilie M. Pollard, Platoon 4000, Papa Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, uses a simulator to practice the fundamentals of marksmanship Nov. 24, 2015, on Parris Island, S.C. Instructors use the simulator to help recruits understand marksmanship fundamentals, such as slow, steady breathing and trigger control. Pollard, 19, from Steubenville, Ohio, is scheduled to graduate Jan. 8, 2016. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
