Ray Rippel, director of the unaccompanied personnel housing division, sits at a desk recreating the long, grueling nights typing and putting together his book at the Five Palms Hotel aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii Nov. 4, 2015. Rippel spent the last 15 years writing the book of the Mokapu Peninsula. “I wanted to know more about (the peninsula) but there wasn’t a book that could tell me so I decided to write about it,” he said.
