Staff Sgt. Willie D. Terrell Jr., chief drill instructor of Fox Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, teaches his recruits Marine Corps history Nov. 17, 2015, on Parris Island, S.C. Historical periods range from the Marine Corps’ founding in 1775 to recent operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Terrell, 30, is from Tuscaloosa, Ala. Fox Company is scheduled to graduate Jan. 22, 2016. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 19,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
