Col. Leon "Lee" Ellis is interviewed during Gathering of Eagles in Wood Auditorium at Air Command and Staff College, June 3, 2015. Ellis was an F-4C pilot assigned to the 390th TFS at DaNang AB, Vietnam. On his 53rd mission, Ellis was shot down following a successful strike on an active gun emplacement. For the next five and a half years, he served honorably as a POW at the Hanoi Hilton. Upon his release in 1973, Ellis resumed his AF career and retired as a colonel. Ellis served as a squadron commander, vice commandant of the Squadron Officer School, and University of Georgia ROTC detachment commander. Ellis is one of the 12 Eagles for 2015 Gathering of Eagles, GOE is an annual capstone event for the graduates of Air Command and Staff College. (U.S. Air Force Photograph by Donna L.
