Sgt. Rafael De Hoyas prepares to throw an M11542 simulator projectile ground burst during an amphibious raid at Ternate, Philippines, Oct. 8, 2015. Philippine and U.S.reconnaissance Marines rehearsed and executed an amphibious raid, which demonstrated their combined maritime raid capabilities. Marines use simulated projectile ground burst to simulate artillery rounds, which adds another dimension to the live-fire training event. This training was in part of Amphibious Landing Exercise 2015, which is an annual, bilateral training exercise conducted by U.S. Marine and Navy Forces with the Armed Forces of the Philippines in order to strengthen our interoperability and working relationships across the range of military operations — from disaster relief, to complex expeditionary operations.
