Seven men are seated around a large conference table in a meeting room, engaged in discussion. Papers, notebooks, and beverages are spread across the table, suggesting a structured work session or training meeting. A whiteboard or flip chart is partially visible on the left side of the frame.

Soldiers from units across 1st Infantry Division discuss various methods to implement the Army’s new initiative, “Not in My Squad,” within their units at the squad level Oct. 7 at 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Inf. Div., headquarters on Fort Riley, Kansas. “There is no face to NIMS,” Staff Sgt. David Rodriguez, 2nd ABCT, 1st Inf. Div., said. “The first thing that Soldiers see is our faces, so it’s our job to make that connection and be able to be proactive and not reactive when a situation does come up.” Rodriguez was selected among 32 Soldiers to attend a workshop in Washington after the initiative was announced earlier this year.
