In the annual MN Armed Forces hockey tournament, the Marine Corps put together their own team, for the first time in MN History. The Marines were primarily from Marine Wing Support Squadron 471, but retired Marines and corpsmen also played for the team, including 75-year-old Marine Veteran John Swanberg. The Majority of the Marines had not played hockey before, but managed to win one match and tie another. "Marines and Sailors are already part of a tight-knit group," said Maj. Richard Wilson, one of the Marine players. "Having the opportunity to work together as a team in a sport which was relatively new for many of us made us that much tighter."
