Recruits of Mike Company, 3rd Recruit training Battalion, conduct bicycle crunches during the Bases event at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Sept. 29. Drill instructors watched the recruits to make sure they were doing the exercises right, and they would correct them if they started to slow down. Today, all males west of the Mississippi are trained at MCRD San Diego. The depot is responsible for training more than 16,000 recruits annually. Mike Company is scheduled to graduate Dec. 11.
