Among family, friends and fellow Marines, Francisco A. Pena, a native of Tucson, Ariz., and a Mountain View High School graduate, was promoted to Staff Sergeant this morning during a ceremony at the Operation Enduring Freedom Memorial at the Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza in Phoenix Oct. 1, 2015. “This is certainly a beginning and not an end,” said Maj. Barret F. Bradstreet, commanding officer of R.S. Phoenix. “More than anything I look forward to the future of what, now Staff Sgt. Pena will do for the Marine Corps, and more importantly, his fellow Marines.” Staff Sgt. Pena said he chose to have his promotion at the Operation Enduring Freedom Memorial because, “You can’t go anywhere unless you know where you and those before you have been.” (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt.
