Michael McCartney, commanding officer of the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Antietam (CG 54), delivers remarks during a memorial service commemorating the 153rd anniversary of the Battle of Antietam on the ship’s flight deck. The Battle of Antietam sustained more casualties than any single-day battle in American history and marked a turning point in the American Civil War. Antietam is forward deployed to the 7th Fleet area of responsibility in support of security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
