Retired U.S. Air Force Col. Thomas Kirk speaks about his experiences as a prisoner of war during a POW/MIA Remembrance Ceremony at Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson, Ariz., Sept. 18, 2015. On Oct. 28, 1967, Kirk’s F-105 Thunderchief was hit by anti-aircraft fire during a fighter-bomber raid over Hanoi, North Vietnam. Kirk was forced to eject out of the aircraft and was immediately captured upon landing. He then spent five and a half years as a POW. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Cheyenne A.
