(Sept. 16, 2015) SAN DIEGO – Chief Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) Roderick McCarty gets pinned during the amphibious assault ship USS America’s (LHA 6) first chief petty officer pinning ceremony since the ship’s commissioning last year. Twenty-eight chiefs were pinned during the traditional ceremony in the hangar bay. America Sailors continue to train and work while the ship is undergoing a Post-Shakedown Availability (PSA) in which the ship’s crew and assigned contractors make improvements to the ship's design. America’s PSA will pave the way for future America-class amphibious assault ships. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 3rd Class William Berksteiner/Released)
