Capt. Pablo Dejesus from Jacksonville, Fla., and 1st Lt. John Kriegbaum from Golden, Colo., receive coins and medals from 4th Brigade, 1st Armored Division Commander Col. Peter Newell and 4th Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment Commander Lt. Col. Robert Menist. Dejesus and Kriegbaum finished the Amarah half-marathon run in first and second places respectively, at Contingency Operating Site Garryowen Oct. 25.
The Amarah half-marathon was a 13-lap event on the mile-long gravel path along the protective walls of COS Garryowen. Both Dejesus and Kriegbaum are assigned to the 4th Bn., 6th Inf. Regt. "Regulars," who are part of 4th Brigade, 1st Armored Division "Highlander" deployed out of Fort Bliss, Texas. The Highlander Brigade advises and assists Iraqi security forces in Dhi Qar, Maysan, and Muthanna provinces in southern Iraq.
