150820-N-GR718-113 SAN DIEGO (Aug. 20, 2015) - Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus addresses the crowd at Naval Air Station North Island during a ceremony to commemorate the signing of an agreement to construct a 210 megawatt direct current solar facility set to benefit 14 Department of the Navy installations. The Mesquite Solar 3 project will help six Marine and eight Navy installations comply with California’s Renewable Portfolio Standard and contribute 21 percent of the power needed to meet Mabus’ goal of bringing 1 gigawatt of renewable energy into procurement by the end of 2015.
