Iraqi student workers receive training about paving the Tal Abtha Road as part of a program designed to educate and employ locals of Tal Abtha as well as provide a route to Mosul's markets and businesses. Many of the men participating in the program were once members of informal militia like The Sons of Iraq. The Tal Abtha Road project has provided them employment since those groups disbanded.
