Even during a day when he's being feted and fawned over, retired chief storekeeper Gene Hanson refuses to sit still and not lend a hand, especially if it concerns helping out with his specialty, smoked salmon. Hanson's 90th birthday was celebrated by Naval Hospital Bremerton's Chief Petty Officer Association, chief petty officer selectees and friends and family on Aug. 15, 2015, in recognition of his service to the nation that spanned three decades and involvement in three wars - WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War.
