Vehicles of the Q-West Water Team and force protection company at the Al-Qayyarah pump house. The pump house supplies raw water to Al-Qayyarah and to Q-West. An exceptionally dry summer, coupled with years of drought, caused a water shortage at Q-West. Among the water-saving measures were closing the swimming pool, limiting the water consumption of all residents and vendors, closing non-essential ablution units and restricting residents to 3-minute combat showers. These conservation measures will continue for the time being, but the water situation improves daily, said Lt. Col. William B. Smith, Jr., Q-West Mayor native of Meridian, Miss. Smith is a member of the Mississippi Army National Guard's 2nd Battalion, 198th Combined Arms out of Senatobia, Miss.
