GULF OF ADEN (July 19, 2015) U.S. Marine Sgt. Maj. Jorge Melendez, left, 1st Sgt. Michael Crockett, and Sgt. Maj. Douglas Schaefer, right, congratulate the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s “Marine of the Week” awardee Lance Cpl. Domoniqe Wade aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2). Melendez is the sergeant major of Battalion Landing Team 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 15th MEU, Crockett is the first sergeant with India Battery, BLT 3/1, 15th MEU, and Schaefer is the sergeant major of the 15th MEU. Wade is from Sumter, South Carolina, and is a field artillery cannoneer with India Battery, BLT 3/1, 15th MEU. Wade holds a billet normally reserved for a non-commissioned officer and supervises the preventative maintenance and stock list inventory of $500,000 worth of rolling stock as well as a $295,000 weapon system with a keen attention to detail, keeping his mortar section deadly and accurate.
