GULF OF ADEN (July 19, 2015) U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Domonique Wade sits in the captain’s chair after being awarded the “Marine of the Week” award aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2). Wade is from Sumter, South Carolina and is a field artillery cannoneer with India Battery, Battalion Landing Team 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 15th MEU. He constantly teaches Marines outside his platoon the duties and responsibilities of a cannoneer, in order to increase the understanding among the Marines on the ship. He also devotes countless hours to help in shops he is not even a part of, including the trash room, mess deck, and laundry room. By volunteering, organizing and supervising working parties for the ship’s resupply and mail calls, he has proved he is dedicated to the success of all aboard the Essex. He is also excelling in BLT 3/1’s machine gunner course, displaying great dedication to the unit’s combat effectiveness. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Anna Albrecht/Released)
