Alyce Dixon, who will turn 102 on Sept. 11, served from 1493 to 1945 as part of the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps which became simply the Women's Army Corps. She was part of the 6888th Postal Battalion, the first all-female, all black battalion, in World War II.
