INDIAN OCEAN (June 23, 2015) Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) triad and engineering department leadership receive the Secretary of the Navy’s 2015 Afloat Environmental Award via a video teleconference. Essex, part of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group and with the embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
