Rct. Charles R. Rousey III, an 18-year-old native of Atkinson, N.C., is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title United States Marine. Rousey is training with Platoon 3040, Kilo Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate June 19, 2015. “I joined the Marine Corps because school wasn’t my thing,” said Rousey, who graduated from Pender Early College High School in 2015. “I always felt I had a warfighting spirit, and the Marine Corps was somewhere I could hone that.” Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps (Photo by Sgt. Jennifer Schubert)
