Nepalese locals wait while U.S. Marines and Nepalese soldiers unload supplies May 10 in Dhading Besi, Nepal. The U.S. Marines, a part of Joint Task Force 505, made multiple trips between Biratnagar Airport and the rural town of Dhading Besi to drop off more than 500 tarps, blankets and bags of rope during Operation Sahayogi Haat. The Nepalese government requested assistance from U.S. Agency for International Development after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck April 25. In response, the U.S. military sent Marines, Airmen, Soldiers and Sailors, as part of JTF 505 at the direction of USAID, to offer their unique joint capabilities to assist the government of Nepal in their relief effort.
