Petty Officer 1st Class Manuel G. Ortiz, religious programmer for Regimental Combat Team 3, was born Fayetteville, N.C. and is a 20-year veteran of boxing with an amateur career of 72-10. The former 1992 Armed Forces Champion, who calls San Antonio home, trains anyone willing to learn in the art of boxing. Ortiz, son of a retired Army first sergeant, graduated from Homestead High School in 1988 in Miami and joined the Army shortly there after where he began his amateur career in South Korea.
