The Joint Base San Antonio military ambassadors pose for a photo with three of their sponsors from the Military Civilian Club after the crowning of the 67th "People's King” or El Rey Feo during a ceremony at the San Fernando Cathedral in downtown San Antonio, part of Fiesta San Antonio. After Fiesta concludes, military ambassadors will visit schools, nursing and retirement homes, and participate in other community outreach events. Since 1988, the Fiesta Military Ambassador Program has showcased service members from all branches. The program is designed to enhance the military’s image in the San Antonio community by displaying the professionalism of its members. The program also educates the public about the value of the world’s greatest military to the national security. The Rey Feo tradition began in 1947 by League of United Latin American Citizens or LULAC Council #2 in San Antonio. All of the festivities of Fiesta San Antonio are for the purpose of fundraising to further education and other charitable goals. Ranking officials representing all of the military services and the military ambassadors attended. Fiesta San Antonio is a series of events honoring the defenders who fought in "Battle of the Alamo" and the "Battle of San Jacinto” in 1836, both important events that shaped the history of San Antonio and Texas. Fiesta celebrates the history of the military in San Antonio and Texas.
