Marines with the Forward Coordination Element, Marine Rotational Force- Darwin mentor local children April 6 at the U.S. State Department sponsored “Hoops Up!” basketball clinic in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. The Marines guided over 120 children through various basketball drills including loop dribbles, 35 second layups, and dribbling sit-ups. Each drill was carefully selected to enhance the participants’ basketball skills, and instill a passion for fitness and competitive athletics. Marine community engagements in the Northern Territory are intended to add depth to our relationship with Australia. Beyond purely military training, we greatly appreciate Australia’s hospitality and believe we have much to learn, and much to share, with our gracious hosts.
