Petty Officer 2nd Class Patrick Lemming holds a child from a village on Perico, a remote El Salvadoran island of 30 families. Lemming is part of a preventive medicine team from the Military Sealift Command hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) and the El Salvadoran navy. The preventive medicine team went to the island at the request of the El Salvadoran Ministry of Health to distribute hygiene products, provide minor medical care and educate the villagers on basic hygiene and medical concerns. Comfort is in El Salvador to support Continuing Promise 2009, a four-month humanitarian and civic assistance mission to Latin America and the Caribbean region.
