Maj. Gina "Torch" Sabric, an F-16 fighter pilot deployed here from Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., as the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing flight-safety officer, sits on her aircraft after a flight. In 1993 women entered fighter pilot training. Sabric, from Tobyhanna, Pa., proudly attributes the progression of women in aviation to the Women Airforce Service Pilots. On July 1, President Barack Obama presented the WASP with the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest and most distinguished award Congress can award a civilian.
