Recon fires away during OSS XII

Latvian soldiers from Recon Company, Combat Support Battalion show pistol firing advancement techniques with the Glock 19 pistol to Spc. Alexander Harris, an Athens, Ga., native and recon infantryman with 3rd Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment during an Operation Summer Shield XII joint training exercise at Adazi Military Base, Latvia, March 26, 2015. Recon Soldiers from the U.S., Canada and Latvia showed each other different techniques to utilize their respective weaponry during the event. Soldiers fired at pop-up targets throughout the 1100-meter range, familiarizing themselves with efficient operating procedures of sniper rifles, assault rifles, machine guns, grenade launchers, and pistols during the shoot. Familiarization and cross platform training on joint weapon systems is crucial to maintaining a high level of interoperability between NATO member nations. Operation Summer Shield XII is a 10-day evolving training process during which partner forces from the U.S., Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Germany, Canada and the United Kingdom work alongside one another in combined arms and live-fire maneuvers.
