Spc. Rodney Thornton, a Houston native and gunner with Golf Forward Support Company, 3rd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, stands proudly with his newly awarded Army Commendation Medal with V-device on Forward Operating Base Warrior, Kirkuk, Iraq, June 26. Thornton was awarded after his truck took a direct hit with an anti-tank grenade, May 23. Rodney returned fire on the attacker and pursued him on foot.
