First Lt. Steven M. Murphy makes a call for fire over the radio, giving locations to an artillery battery to provide suppressing fire March 9 during Dragon Fire Training Exercise 15-2 at Pohakuloa Training Area, Hawaii. Forward observers provide artillery batteries with coordinates to fire on and also confirm impacts, ensuring the battery is hitting the target. Murphy, a Crofton, Maryland, native, is an artillery officer in the liaison section with 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
