Marines with various units from throughout II Marine Expeditionary Force use binoculars to scan for practice targets while conducting observation lane training during a designated marksmanship course at the Division Combat Skills Center aboard Camp Lejeune, N.C., March 9, 2015. The purpose of the training was to improve the abilities of the individual Marines to detect anomalies or threats from a distance. Designated marksmen are Marines who have been trained to engage in combat at longer ranges than other members of his or her squad and are frequently assigned to protect United States embassies.
