Drill Instructor Staff Sgt. Michael C. Williams, Platoon 2020, Golf Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, inspects his platoon for alignment during an initial drill evaluation March 4, 2015, on Parris Island, S.C. Drillmasters, experts on the Marine Corps Drill and Ceremonies Manual, graded Williams, 31, from Charleston, S.C., on his military appearance and ability to command his platoon. Golf Company is scheduled to graduate March 13, 2015. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
