150211-N-EI558-053 NAVAL AIR FACILITY ATSUGI, Japan (Feb. 11, 2015) – Aviation Structural Mechanic 2nd Class Alex Foncham, of Fleet Logistics Support Squadron (VRC) 30 Det. 5, tightens the knee bolt of a carrier onboard delivery aircraft wing. The knee bolt is what allows the wing to open and close while not in flight. Without proper maintenance and care, the wing would be unstable and unable to lock into the open or close positions, rendering the aircraft unable to fly.
