Bender left Fort Huachuca to compete in the Culinary Arts Noncommissioned Officer of the Quarter board at Fort Hood, Texas, Jan. 7. After winning the board, he went on to compete in the Culinary Arts NCO of the Year competition Jan. 8–9.
