Hanging at a 45-degree angle to the ground, Army Sgt. Jasen Carlson advances up his route at the Bliss Boulder Battle held at the Soldier Activity Center, Fort Bliss Texas, Oct. 11. One the most popular routes of the Battle was also the hardest as climbers would, at times, be hanging upside down, griping with fingertips. The final push to the top or the route was a three-foot jump nearly straight up. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. James Avery, 16th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment)
