Today, the USMC Wounded Warrior Regiment dedicated a portrait of Sergeant Merlin German at their wounded warrior call center. Wounded Warrior Call Center Program Manager Armando Rodriguez accepted the portrait from Wounded Warrior Regiment Sgt. Maj. Michael Mack during the dedication ceremony. The portrait of Sgt. German was painted by Mr. Colin Kimball, whose son currently serves with 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines, which is the same unit that Sgt. German served in when he was injured. Mr. Kimball's goal was to have every person who enters the call center to see the majestic Marine that Sgt. German was. The portrait was donated by Mr. Kimball through the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex Marine Council and now hangs in the front lobby of the wounded warrior call center. The call center, which was named after Sgt. German in December 2008, is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Sergeant Merlin German Wounded Warrior Call Center, established in 2007, renders assistance to wounded, ill and injured Marines, Marine veterans, and their families with obtaining benefits and referrals, providing information on community reintegration services, and a multitude of other resources. The trained call center staff includes retired Marines and Marine veterans or family members of Marines augmented by a small staff of psychological health professionals. These dedicated individuals are skilled at providing help and share a common bond with those they serve. The Call Center primarily conducts outreach calls to offer assistance on a wide variety of issues, such as service disability ratings, medical care, employment, counseling, and benevolent organizations. Most outreach calls are to WII Marines on the Temporary Disability Retired List to ensure they receive appropriate support during this time period. The WWCC also receives calls for assistance from WII Marines and their families / caregivers on a 24/7 basis, including weekends and holidays.
