Rct. Logan McCafferty, an 18-year-old native of Auburndale, Fla., is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title of United States Marine. McCafferty is training with Platoon 2090, Golf Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate Nov. 21, 2014. “Since I was six, when 9/11 occurred, I was interested in joining the Marine Corps and being a part of protecting the freedoms our country has,” said McCafferty, who graduated from Auburndale High School in 2014. Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Lance Cpl. Vaniah Temple)
