Rct. Christina Rodriguez, a 19-year-old native of New Haven, Conn., is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title of United States Marine. Rodriguez is training with Platoon 4032, Oscar Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate Sept. 19, 2014. “I joined the Marine Corps because I wanted to prove to my family that even though I’m the youngest I can surpass my siblings,” said Rodriguez. “Growing up my siblings were always tougher than me so I just felt I had something to prove. When I saw the Marine Corps, I just thought ‘go hard or go home.’” Rodriguez graduated from The Sound School Regional Vocational Aquaculture Center in New Haven, Conn., in 2014. Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Caitlin Brink)
