Farinas served on his first deployment to Helmand province, Afghanistan with 1st Marine Regiment. The regiment served as the command element of Task Force Belleau Wood, which is responsible for the overall security of Camps Bastion and Leatherneck and the remaining International Security Assistance Forces in Helmand province. First Marine Regiment cased their battle colors during a ceremony, Aug. 15, 2014.
